- Pick article that is a POEM!
- Is it relevant, potential to change practice?
- BBs for Chest Pain with recent cocaine
- Skip abstract!
- Read title, primary objectives
- Methods, study design, validity
- Results: go straight to tables, figures
- Table 1-very important; sets the stage
- Come up with your own conclusion
- Then go back to text to clarify
- Please include a brief explanation of a statistical concept in your presentation
- See if there is an editorial! Read it AFTER you’ve done your own critique
- Newsworthy? What’s the buzz? Check reputable medical websites to view discussion on issue (ie. www.medscape.com, www.theheart.org)
- Always pull the supplementary material-there is a lot of information there! Easy to hide info here.
